Port Moody City of the Arts

Port Moody is located at the east end of Burrard Inlet in British Columbia, Canada. Port Moody is the smallest of the Tri-Cities, bordered by Coquitlam  on the east and south, and Burnaby on the west. The magnificent Coast Mountains surround the city to the northwest and north - this gives Port Moody a picturesque setting.

Port Moody is known as City of the Arts. 'Land Full of Treasures' was chosen as the Chinese translation of Port Moody, which earned the City a special award by the Chinese Creative Awards of the Vancouver Chinese Marketing & Media Association (VCAMMA) for best name adaptation.

So why City of the Arts? There is good reason for this:

Culture and the arts are valued and celebrated in the City of Port Moody. Festivals featuring local entertainers, dynamic artist collectives and a thriving independent gallery scene define the city as a creative community. 2010 played host to the 13th annual Port Moody Festival of the Arts, from September 24th to October 3rd. The festival brought together a wealth of talented performers and artists. For more information on the festival see: http://pomoartsfestival.ca/

The arts are integrated into Port Moody’s environment. The city has excellent facilities such as the Inlet Theatre, the Port Moody Arts Centre and the Port Moody Station Museum. These facilities stimulate, educate and motivate engagement with the arts. You can easily see a musical, take a drawing class and learn about the history of this vibrant waterfront city.

In Port Moody, art is accessible. Free, ever-changing gallery exhibitions, and permanent public art pieces that enhance a trip to the local park are just two ways to explore Port Moody’s creative offerings. Port Moody is only a 40 minute drive from downtown Vancouver and is well worth a day trip.
